American Wreckage

Released on the same day the world witnessed the unsealing of the Jeffrey Epstein files, American Wreckage stands as a sonic document of transparency and the dismantling of systemic structures. American Wreckage is not a diary, but a mirror held up to the collective American Experience. It is a study of the feedback loop between the noise of the culture and the soul of the art. Amy Jean created this work to capture how the grit of the Deep South and the chaos of the information age influence the human spirit and how that spirit then influences the culture back. If there was danger in the way, I would sing: 'Go down, Moses, way down into Egypt’s land; tell old Pharaoh, let my people go.' Then they would keep quite still. But if it was safe, I would sing: 'Hail, oh hail, ye happy spirits.' Then they would come out. I was conductor of the Underground Railroad for eight years, and I can say what most conductors can't say. I never ran my train off the track and I never lost a passenger.
