Amartya Swings is a jazz big band album inspired by the philosophy of Amartya Sen, translating ideas of choice, justice, capability, and public reasoning into rhythm, harmony, and swing. Rather than illustrating theory, the music gives it motion—brass lines argue and respond, rhythms open space for agency, and piano and horn sections explore comparison, constraint, and possibility. Each composition reflects Sen’s focus on what people are actually able to do, not abstract ideals, turning ethical thought into sound. This album is not an endorsement, but a musical homage: philosophy arranged for big band, where reason moves, debates, and finally swings.
