Glenn Chugg - Rats Arse

Meaning: Betrayal by someone who claims they never loved you — finding peace not through closure, but through simply stopping the chase for one. Technical: Acoustic alt-folk, defiant half-sung/half-spoken, ~95–105 BPM, building steadily to full band; deliberately warm, organic, and rough rather than glossy, since the song is about no longer performing for anyone. Read: The most fun song in the earlier catalogue, tonally — dry, blunt, a little funny, a register Chicken Math has since expanded on properly. "Rats arse" as a hook is a genuine risk that pays off, and the bridge line "peace was never in the winning, it was in the letting go of the fight" is one of the clearest single statements of the whole record's arc. Loses half a point because the outro repeats "turns out the ground I stood on was only ever borrowed" verbatim, sourced straight into Fragments Of Me.
