It was a favorite of with both Greeks and Romans and one of the most popular instruments of classical antiquity. it can be seen represented in art from almost every period of greco-roman history and remained a popular instrument for almost 1000 years in greek myth, nostos was the hero’s thematic return home and the trials faced along their journey. the most famous nostos was of course that of Odysseus, but many other heroes experienced nostos throughout their own adventures. it was not just about making it back though, but returning while remaining true to one’s character and personal identity or becoming a better version of oneself through the trials they face. to be challenged and tempted to go against one’s own nature for the sake of survival, but rejecting that path and remaining true to what one believes in most while still overcoming the challenge presented to them.
