Glenn Chugg - Burnout

Meaning: Twenty-five years of the wrong diagnosis — depression instead of autism, autism instead of burnout — told plainly as a misdiagnosis story until the right word finally arrives. Technical: Modern blues-rock/soul ballad, 66 BPM, slow swing, dry resonator or slide guitar and slow-walking bass — contemporary and autobiographical rather than generic bar-room blues. Brushed drums enter subtly by Verse 2; no flashy guitar solos. Read: A fully committed blues track that earns the genre without leaning on AAB repetition — every line moves forward. The intro is airtight: "doctor said depression, I was thirteen years old... turns out it was never the right word" sets up the whole song in three lines. The specificity carries it — tired by two in the afternoon, lying awake too worn out to sleep, a hundred interests and not one nameable. The bridge is the catalogue's best example of restraint doing the emotional work: it drops rhyme entirely and just states the fact ("same brain, new name... wasn't weakness, wasn't me not trying hard enough"). Resolution is adaptation, not triumph — consistent with how nearly every Chugg song chooses to end.
