Glenn Chugg - Fragments Of Me

Meaning: A mid-catalogue self-portrait — the mask, the wall, the spoons, the static, the bottom, the plan — claimed and carried, but deliberately left short of resolution. It ends in ownership, not wholeness: "not scattered, not torn... every one still mine," a very different landing than its later sibling's "the whole of me." Technical: Dark cinematic alt-rock/art-rock, 86 BPM. Opens flat, controlled and intimate — muted electric guitar, low bass, sparse pulse. First chorus expands moderately but still reads as damage being described, not yet owned. The "bottom" verse is the emotional floor, hushed and near-spoken before slowly lifting. Final chorus is the fullest point — layered guitars, fuller drums, weary and earned but never triumphant. Outro drops to one instrument and voice, then silence. Read: This is its own song, not a discarded draft of All The Fragments Of Me — and the distinction matters, because it's doing a genuinely different job. Where the later song integrates the whole catalogue and lands on wholeness, this one stops earlier and honestly: "still standing — still here — still worn" is a claim of survival, not of integration, and the final chorus's "whole in every piece I've worn" is a careful, narrower thing to say than "they're the whole of me" — worn, not whole. As a standalone piece it's tightly constructed and genuinely moving on its own terms; heard next to its resolved counterpart, it becomes something more interesting still — two honest snapshots of the same person at different points in the same process, kept as two songs instead of collapsed into one.
