This rock power ballad reimagination of Billie Eilish’s “Ocean Eyes,” marks the beginning of a new chapter for East of June. It’s their first release since the departure of bassist Dirk Lance, and a bold statement of their resilience and creativity. With “Ocean Eyes,” the band has set the tone for a new sound that fans should expect to hear more of in the future. “With Dirk’s departure, Smidge and I really wanted to shake things up at every level. I was wrapping up production on ‘Ocean Eyes’ when Eric Emery sent me a DM on Insta and asked when we were gonna let him mix one of our songs. His timing was pure magick. I remember being like, ‘well ya know, I’ve got this thing I’m just about done with…’” Emery is a Grammy-nominated music engineer, producer, mixer, and multi-instrumentalist boasting an impressive tenure of over a decade in the music industry. Accumulating over a billion career streams, Emery’s artistry has left an indelible mark, collaborating with renowned artists like Blink-182, Travis Barker, Alice Cooper, Yungblud, Starset, Periphery, Orgy, and more. Beyond the studio, Emery has graced stages globally, fronting the award-winning progressive rock band, Skyharbor. Adds Emily: “When we got the first mix back from Eric, Kyle and I called each other and were in complete shock. Eric had a vision that completely transformed the band. He really brought to life what we knew was always within us. We’re really excited about collaborating with Eric as we move this project forward.”
