Many of you might be wondering: is “Elsewhere” based on a real-life situation? Not exactly. I’ve never had the luxury of hearing someone say, “I’m sorry, I made a mistake,” after being cheated on. Let me take you behind the scenes of “Elsewhere.” I was cooking for Christmas dinner, and whenever I cook, I love having music playing in the background. That day, I chose one of my all-time favorite albums, Parabola (Parable), by my favorite Italian singer-songwriter, Roberto Vecchioni. There’s a song on that album that has always deeply resonated with me. It’s called “Povero Ragazzo” (Poor Boy). The song tells the story of a betrayal, but from an unusual perspective: the outsider—the third person in the relationship. The voice we hear belongs to the guy who ends up sleeping with a girl who is already in a relationship, and, in an attempt to atone for his guilt, he apologizes—through music—to the other side of that love triangle. Now, I don’t know whether it was the scent of the pecan muffins I was baking, or the gorgonzola, pear, and walnut cream I was preparing, but something sparked. As I listened, a question suddenly took shape: “But what does the girl think about all of this?” In just two minutes, I wrote down the rough draft of a verse—please understand, I was on the verge of burning the muffins. Between Christmas and New Year’s, with no kitchen distractions, I took the time to complete the lyrics and give them an instrumental that could truly do them justice. And that’s how “Elsewhere” came to life. Musically, it sits firmly in the deep house realm, in true Matbcapo style: powerful basslines and harmonically rich synths supporting a driving rhythm, without losing itself in unnecessary technicalities. So—what do you think? Have you ever been betrayed by your significant other? P.S. The official music video for Elsewhere is now available on YouTube. A visual story of distance, silence, and everything left unsaid. Click here to watch it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GZTgC1WRJHE (And don't forget to follow matbcapo on YT too!)
