A scientist filed an affidavit, With every fact in black and white. They called him up as their witness, And cross-examined him all night. He leapt through loops and legal traps, He answered every loaded call. They thought they'd make him stumble— But he never stumbled at all! The questions came—rapid fire! The lawyers pressed him to the wire! They pulled and twisted every thread— But every arrow missed its head! Ding, ding! The battle is over! The infringement claim has hit the floor! The judge found his evidence credible— And millions came rolling through the door! Oh, he wins! Yes, he wins! The clever scientist wins! But when the money starts to ring, You'd better watch the axe swing! His rivals saw the numbers grow, They watched the royalties roll. A little invention here, A little fortune there— And suddenly he filled the whole room! The executives smiled politely, The VPs adjusted their ties. Nobody mentioned the obvious thing— But everybody knew the eyes. “Congratulations!” “Excellent work!” “Wonderful victory!” “Now, if you don't mind…” “Perhaps you'd like a quieter place?” Ding, ding! The battle is over! The infringement claim has disappeared! The scientist has won the argument— And suddenly his rivals look very scared! Oh, he wins! Yes, he wins! The clever scientist wins! When profits rise into the sky, Somebody starts to wonder why… The CEO came with a gentle smile: “My friend, let's settle this in style. No need for lawyers, no need for war. You've done your job—and done much more. The company needs a little peace. Perhaps you could take a short retreat? A quiet office, away from the crowd, Where nobody bothers you too loud.” I volunteered. (M) He volunteered! (F) A victory… (M) is sometimes a very quiet place.
